11th Annual Festival of the Arts BOCA

BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — The 11th Annual Festival of the Arts BOCA at the Mizner Park Amphitheater and the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center continues with a performance Friday night with world-renowned violinist Sarah Chang.

The 10 day festival is showcasing several international and national artists, authors and musicians. According to festival organizers, each day will present a variety of featured artists.

"We have stars from all over the world," said Charlie Siemon, co-founder and co-producer of the festival. "Our Authors and Ideas Program is extremely varied, exploring areas of politics, the arts, science and fiction."

A list of daily events follows:

Thursday, March 2, at 7 p.m.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Jenifer Egan, author of A Visit from the Goon Squad, will give presentation on "The Novelist as Journalist/Journalist as Novelist" at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Centre.

Friday, March 3, at 7 p.m.

Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Branford Marsalis will join The Symphonia, Boca Raton conducted by Constantine Kitsopolous. This performance will also include music by John Williams from the movies Catch Me if You Can, Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Saturday, March 4 at 4 p.m.

Cartoon editor for The New Yorker Bob Mankoff will present "I Only Read it for the Cartoons." Mankoff is also an author, according to the Arts BOCA, included on the New York Times bestseller list. According to organizers, Mankoff will also meet with the winner of the Festival of the Arts BOCA Bob Mankfoff Cartoon Caption. Mankoff will also give a presentation on how he selects cartoons for The New Yorker.

The festival will feature the world famous opera, La Boheme. The Symphonia and conductor Kitsopoulos will be a part of the 7 p.m. performance.

Sunday, March 5 at 7 p.m.

Indonesian piano prodigy Joey Alexander, 13, will perform in a double bill with Mexican classical pianist Daniela Liebman, 13, at the Mizner Park Amphitheater, according to organizers. The two teens are expected to perform with the Symphonia in a variety of arrangements.

Monday, March 6 at 7 p.m.

Pulitzer Prize-winner, Presidential historian and contributing editor at Time Jon Meacham will give a presentation on "The Art of Leadership: Lessons from the American Presidency" at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

Tuesday, March 7 at 7 p.m.

Author and theoretical physicist Brain Greene will deliver the speech "Beyond Einstein: Space, Time and Reality" at the Mizner Park Amphitheater. Greene is the author of the New York Times Best Seller "The Fabric of the Cosmos." According to Arts BOCA organizers, Greene is a professor in physics and mathematics at Columbia University.

Friday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m.

World-renowned violinist Sarah Chang will headline the Friday, March 10 concert at Arts BOCA. Concluding the performance with the Symphonia will be American pianist Daniel Hsu, the first prize winner of the 2015 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition.

Saturday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m.

At the festival will be the world premiere of Blake Edwards' classic 1964 comedy film, The Pink Panther, according to Arts BOCA organizers. Along with the premiere will be a live performance of the saxophone theme song done by the Henry Mancici Institute Orchestra and conducted by Constantine Kitsopoulos.

Sunday, March 12 at 7 p.m.

On the last day of the festival, three-time Grammy Award winning Sergio Mendes and Brasil 2017 will make an exclusive appearance, according to Art BOCA organizers.
