2024-03 Luxuria Synopsis

Welcome to Barcelona Flamenco Ballet’s new masterpiece, where complexity, emotions and unexpected sensations meet. Intrigue, power, loyalty, pleasure and tragedy.

Are you ready to experience them? Silence. Welcome to ‘Luxurîa’.

‘Luxurîa’, directed by the dancer and choreographer David Gutiérrez, marks his third work as a creator, after his previous successes ‘New Flamenco Time’ and ‘Flamenco Reborn’. With this new release, in which the proposals of risk and innovation dominate, the choreographer combines traditional and contemporary flamenco dance. If one thing is certain, it is that he will captivate the audience and leave them stunned and moved throughout the show.

Throughout its history, BFB has been committed to raising social messages. ‘Luxurîa’ aims to honor the figure and position of the woman in the dance. Through its themes, the plot captures and highlights the sensuality and scandal as a guiding thread towards a critical vision of the present day. A narrative where you will probably feel recognized by having been in the shoes of one of its interpreters.

The protagonist, a male figure, confronts himself in a series of personal conflicts. He attracts the attention and is aware of the interest he arouses in many women. They desire him for what he has, not what he is. However, he starts to live in a constant contradiction when he meets the love of his life. They connect solely by looking at each other and he understands that loving her will not be easy since she is a woman of character - rebellious, strong, and independent. She seems to fly when she dances. To share or to lose? He wants all or nothing. Love or momentary pleasure? The protagonist’s need to live in lust prevents his true feelings from coming to light. Only her hand can save him. Once again, doubts, pride, and ambition result in loneliness.

Lust is a fascinating subject and flamenco is the most appropriate movement to portray it. Elegance and passion. Despair and tragedy. Intense sexual desire, on occasion, overrides feelings. In ‘Luxurîa’, emotion has an intimate way of transmitting itself, and gives way to loneliness, depression, and madness.

‘Luxurîa’ stands out for its pioneering style of flamenco ballet, as it mixes different music styles, such as classical music, jazz, and conventional flamenco, creating a unique staging with a beautiful, lyrical, and at the same time, tragic and conflict-filled atmosphere. In short, a unique and unusual flamenco ballet show for the variety and intensity of the emotions it awakens, and for the manner in which it addresses intimate yet universal themes.

Your skin will stand on end. Come, relax, and connect with the story.

Dare to discover ‘Luxurîa’!
