Dr. Manuel Capote

Since January 2021, Dr. Capote has been a World Languages Spanish teacher at Westglades Middle School in Parkland, Florida. He is also a Music Education Consultant with the Nat King Cole Generation Hope, Inc., and the Volta Music Foundation, among others. In June 2023 he joined the Board of Directors of the Schmidt Family Centre for the Arts.

As a Procter and Gamble Scholar at Northwestern University, Dr. Capote pursued studies in Electrical Engineering and Applied Music. He has a Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from the University of Miami (2003), a Master of Music degree in Music Education from Boston University (2009), and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lynn University (2020).

From 2010 to 2020 Dr. Capote was the Coordinator of the Preparatory School, Community Outreach, and Music Education at the Lynn University Conservatory of Music. He has traveled to Havana, Cuba to perform and produce concerts and master classes as part of the Lynn University Conservatory’s Education and Outreach efforts. Dr. Capote has also served on the board of directors of the League of American Orchestras Youth Orchestra division as well as the advisory board of the Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition.

Cuban-born Manuel Capote was principal cellist with the Florida Philharmonic, Florida Grand Opera, and the Miami City Ballet orchestras for over 20 years. He has taught cello and chamber music throughout South Florida. Manuel was also Band and Orchestra Director at American Heritage School of Boca/Delray and served as Conductor and Music Director with the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County.

Manuel has performed chamber music in the United States and Europe with his late wife, flutist Christine D. Nield Capote. He was a fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival, as well as a member of the Aspen Festival Orchestra and the Aspen Chamber Symphony. His cello teachers include Ingus Naruns, Dudley Powers, Frank Miller, and Laszlo Varga. He has collaborated with such diverse artists as Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Mstislav Rostropovich, James Galway, Luciano Pavarotti, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett. Manuel has recorded commercially with Crosby Stills and Nash, the Miami Sound Machine, Julio Iglesias, KC & the Sunshine Band, the original Miami String Quartet, and with the Florida Philharmonic on the Harmonia Mundi label.

Manuel was married to flutist Christine D. Nield Capote (1950-2007) for over twenty-five years. His son, Nicholas Capote, is a freelance artist and works in the art business in Miami, Florida.
