Monday, March 8 | 7:00 PM

In this streaming event, Geopolitics and Leadership in the Time of Coronavirus, Admiral James Stavridis, a retired four-star U.S. naval officer, will draw on his decades of service and experience to discuss the nature of America's current and future security threats, and how we meet them.

Stavridis led the NATO Alliance in global operations from 2009 to 2013 as Supreme Allied Commander with responsibility for Afghanistan, Libya, the Balkans, Syria, counter-piracy, and cybersecurity. He also served as Commander of U.S. Southern Command, with responsibility for all military operations in Latin America from 2006-2009. He earned more than 50 medals, including 28 from foreign nations in his 37-year military career.

2034: A Novel of the Next WarHis novel, 2034: A Novel of the Next World War, will be released the day after this event. Co-authored with Elliot Ackerman, it is a chillingly authentic, geopolitical thriller that imagines a naval clash between the US and China in the South China Sea in 2034 – and the path from there to a nightmarish global conflagration.

Stravridis is also the author of the 2019 book, Sailing True North: Ten Admirals and the Voyage of Character, a meditation on leadership and character refracted through the lives of ten of the most illustrious naval commanders in history.
